While not directing retail at the New Jersey running company, Jennifer Heiner is a passionate runner and has trained many friends to advance their running goals. Jennifer Heiner also loves volunteering and has helped organize group runs as they train for the New York City Marathon.

Volunteering offers critical help to worthwhile causes, activities, and the wider community. Many sporting organizations would not survive without volunteers. Hiring professionals is costly, particularly for community sports, and volunteers fill many critical roles, such as organizers and guides. In many community clubs and sports, passionate dads, mums, and community members donate their time and resources to welcome event participants and provide services such as first aid during races or direct visitors around the facility or town.

And it’s not just the sports clubs that stand to benefit. There are several benefits for the volunteer too. It can create an opportunity to try something entirely new such as coaching and mentoring young sportsmen or women. As a volunteer, you have the opportunity to extend your social network within the community. You feel the satisfaction of being part of the success of your local sports team or club.

Two local organizations, New York Road Runners and NYCRUNS offer amazing volunteer opportunities at races and beyond to those willing to get involved in more than just participating in the races themselves. NYRR offers the chance at volunteering in order to gain entry to the NYC Marathon, and NYCRUNS offers race credit to those who also choose to volunteer their time at races.
