USATF Championships come to Hayward Field
The retail director of a New Jersey running company, Jennifer Heiner works closely with the company’s co-founders and helps run the retail stores. An avid runner and marathoner, Jennifer Heiner supports USA Track & Field (USATF), the national governing and regulatory body for track and field and related disciplines, such as cross country.
In cross country, teams and individuals of all ages compete in outdoor races on natural terrains, such as open country, parks, golf courses, fields, and grasslands. Running on paved roads is minimal in cross country. Cross country races usually take place in the fall. Various cross country events include Under 20, Open, and Masters for men and women. The first national cross country championships were held in 1883. Since then, the cross country championships have become major attractions. USATF has set the tentative schedule of the 2022 USATF Cross Country Championships for January 8, 2022. The venue will be Mission Bay Park in San Diego California, the same venue of the 2008, 2011, and 2020 USATF Cross Country Championships. There will be six events in the 2022 edition, with over $18,000 in prizes at stake.
This June however, the USATF Track and Field Championships are returning to the historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, and is slated to feature the best of the best. The USATF put out a bulletin about the event yesterday.
USATF announces 2022 USATF Outdoor Championships site | USA Track & Field
“USATF today announced that Team USATF will compete at Hayward Field for its 2022 Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
The 2022 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships will be held June 23–26 at the University of Oregon’s newly renovated Hayward Field. The meet will serve as the qualifying event for the 2022 World Athletics Outdoor Championships, set for July 15–24 at Hayward Field and marking the first time the event will be held on U.S. soil.
Additionally, Team USATF U20 athletes will compete at the U20 Outdoor Championships June 23–25.
Hayward Field is no stranger to USATF Championships, having played host to seven U.S. Olympic Trials, including the past four editions. The historic venue has been the site of nine other U.S. championship meets since 1971 and has also hosted 17 NCAA outdoor championship meets since 1962.
